The NEW Ambi-3 Illuminator
The ultimate self contained illuminator just became even better:
- A self contained, full spectrum quartz light array eliminates the need for external light sources.
- Compact, portable and self contained, the new Ambi-3 significantly reduces light leakage, making it better suited for low light (high dynamic range) testing.
- Change the light temperature to suite your needs by applying DSCs custom Ambi-3 filters.
- Upgrade your Ambi-2 to a new Ambi-3 in seconds, with the easy to install Ambi-3 illuminant panel.

Exceptional Light Evenness & Portability
When you need exceptional light evenness and portability, Ambi’s your best choice.
Ambi-2 is unique because it makes use of an external light source – either a lamp mounted on its stand, or a dedicated light source matching the key light. The light is directed at the adjustable mirror on the rear of Ambi, and then transferred through the illuminator’s color-corrected diffuser panel to illuminate the test target.
Known for its incredible light evenness, the Ambi Illuminator is the ultimate companion piece to DSC’s rear lit Combi test charts.
Customize Camera Set-Up to Shooting Conditions
Only Ambi Lets You Customize Camera Set-Up to Shooting Conditions. Because its light source is external, Ambi lets you alternate between quartz, HMI, fluorescent, daylight and other illuminants. Used with different lamp types, Ambi provides test transparency illumination that is precisely color-matched to the types of lighting a camera will encounter. Setting up a camera’s color matrix to several different illuminants, and then using the appropriate stored matrix setting during a shoot, can dramatically improve the visual quality and consistency of your images.

Combi-DX1 charts – the result of extensive research to develop the ultimate test materials.
Combi DX1 benefits include:
- Improved color stability
- Spectrophotometrically neutral grayscales
- Selected color pigments with spectral characteristics that complement real life colors, and modern camera colorimetry
- Greater flexibility enabling more different patterns
- DX-1 patterns match CamAlign front-lit chart colorimetry
All Combis DX-1 require an Ambi-2 or Ambi-3 for illuminator
Combis are easy to use . . .
. . . because they are precision “Optical Signal Generators” (OSGs) that produce waveform and vectorscope displays designed to mimic standard electronic test signals. Featuring a “Combi”nation of test elements, Combis save time and are easier on the budget.
Combi-DX1 takes the guesswork out of matching video cameras!
Align multiple cameras using Combi-1’s color patches and you will be delighted how simple image matching can be. Combi-1 is especially helpful when aligning to different types of lighting, quartz, HMI, fluorescent etc. Our aim is to give you consistent, virtually identical outputs – every time! Combi deviation from aim values are specified in CIE units. Maximum tolerance for any color is 5 CIE L*U*V units, with an RMS maximum of 2 units. As a yardstick, cameras considered “well matched” by eye, typically have a CIE color difference of 10 units.
Choose the Combi-1 that’s best for your application
All Combi-1 and Combi-2 OSGs are produced to avoid the moiré and other problems caused when typical printed patterns “beat” with a camera’s CCDs. Mounted in shatter-proof, clearer than glass plastic, OSGs are packaged with individual calibration sheets in sturdy protective cases.
Uncertain which camera to buy? Combi-DX1 can be invaluable in helping you make the best purchase decision, with confidence.
Use with other Illuminators
While Combis are designed to be used with the Ambi illuminator we can supply CombiMattes to use Combi OSGs with other manufacturers’ light boxes or spherical illuminators.
